So, I was kicking around Pinterest, and I happened upon a new blog, and I thought I'd share. It's pretty cute, and I think there are some fun things there. The blog is called TGI diy, and I think it's pretty cool.
It doesn't look like this girl has been blogging for too long, but what she has on her site is looking pretty good. One of my favorite things to find on the internet is Splurge vs. Steal articles, and this blog has a bunch. Additionally, as the title suggests, there are diy ideas as well as recipes. Bonus for you ladies who love being from the south: this blogger is from North Carolina!
In conclusion, I think you should stop by TGI diy today. No, I don't know her, and she didn't ask me to promote her blog. I just like it. So go there now!

So, for the past four or five days, we've had some serious outages here in Comcast land. In fact, as recently as this morning, I couldn't access the internet.
As such, I've got a backlog of work to do, so I'll just leave you here with this amazing photo of the sweet baby Miranda. Look at that face.

So, once I get started on doing something, then I have to do it a few times and experiment a little. That's why we've got another print today.
I don't think this one is perfect by any means, but I just thought I'd try it out. I haven't done a whole lot of paisleys..in fact this one may be the second one ever. But...here it is! I kind of wish I hadn't put that big ol' tulip in the middle of that one paisley. Oh well. You live and you learn.
Annnnd that's it for me! Happy Thursday!

It's Wednesday, but my Portraits were all finished yesterday, so I have no work-in-progress to show for #WIPWednesday. Instead, here's a print I finished last night.
This is another one that I drew by hand, scanned in, and then manipulated in Photoshop and Illustrator. Perhaps it's getting a bit late in the year to use such color schemes, but it's still pretty hot here in Atlanta.
Also, to sweeten your Monday, please enjoy this video that I found down the rabbit hole on Facebook this morning.

So, after I made the print that I showed yesterday, I had a few ideas for some hand drawn prints. So, I did some doodles while I was watching So You Think You Can Dance last night, scanned them in, and made them into print repeats.
The first on you see here, I drew half of the repeat, and then I just mirrored it, increased the contrast, and live traced it in Illustrator so that I could color it more easily and throw it into a repeat.
Next, we've got a simple sort of houndstooth check. The only sort of interesting thing is just that I scribbled one section of the repeat and scanned it in. On to the next one.
I like this one. I drew one eighth of the design, and then I just mirrored and rotated it until it was a complete design. It's kind of fun to do it that way because even though you have sort of an idea of how it will turn out, the end product is sort of a surprise.
All right. That's it for me. Happy Tuesday!

So, I haven't finished the fashion project I started last week because I've been working on a number of projects. I have two painted portraits going right now that I hope to finish this week. Unfortunately they're a surprise gift for someone's wife, so I can't show them to you until she's gotten them. Additionally, I've been working on some more prints.
Today I'm sharing one of this prints with you. It's inspired by a vintage wallpaper print, but of course I've tweaked it quite a big. for one thing, mine is a bit simpler. The request was for a few christmas-y prints, so that accounts for this color story. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It certainly looks like it's for Christmas, though.
All right, I must be off to work on all of the things. Happy Monday to you!

Today's Friday, so instead of posting more work, I thought you might want to see a picture of Miranda the dog being a human on the sofa.
I love her. She's the best. She really loves this blanket, too. If this blanket isn't on the sofa, she doesn't really know how to live.
Wishing you a comfy cozy day in super cold air conditioning. Happy Friday!

Today's image is something new for me. It's the first time I've ever colored thumbnails on my computer instead of by hand. It took longer than I thought it would, but in the end, I've used less paper, and the image is much clearer than if I'd scanned it.
To see the images larger, click on the image or open it in a new tab.
The purpose of thumbnail sketches are to show your thought process in developing a line of clothing. Of course, if you're actually designing a line, you'd need many more pieces than this. However, if the collection is particularly large, you'd want to divide the design process into different teams, and so no one would actually be making thumbnails of every item of clothing.
For a sample project, though, it's nice to have some complete looks.
This design development turned out to be al little crazier-looking than I thought it would. There are a bunch of patterns, and apparently I only like to design dresses and skirts. Still, other than jeans, how many pair of pants does a woman need? I think I may have chosen too many colors for a small collection like this.
You'll also notice that some of the girls have brightly-colored legs. That was my attempt to pull some ideas from the mood board into the sketches.
All right, that's it for today! Enjoy! Happy Thursday!

So, I started the thumbnail sketches for the project yesterday, and I thought I'd show them here before I colored them in. This is page 3 of 4. It's a study of stripes, and it will make more sense, I think, once it's colored. Well, it'll be more exciting at least.
Stay tuned for the colored version, and have a happy Wednesday!

So, yesterday, I posted a mood board. Today, I'm posting the colors I extracted from the board. Were I creating this project for an interview, school, or work, I would also have chosen Pantone colors. However, my printer isn't great as far as colors go, and so matching colors would be a little tough. So...here are the colors! Stay tuned tomorrow for the next installment of this project.

Well, good morning! It's been a while since I made a sample fashion project, so I thought I'd exercise that muscle and make a new mood board. I worked on this yesterday, and I think it turned out pretty nicely.
I tried to use colors that were clean and bright while grounding them with good neutrals and crisp black and white.
Below, you'll find references for all the images I used. I altered some of them, so if you follow the links, you may not find what you think you will.

Well, the day has come. It is my birthday, and I am thirty-one years old. I suppose I'm well out of the range where I could claim to be a child. Now when they card me at the movies, they're just being nice. It's ok, though, because so far my 30s are turning out to be much more laid back than my 20s.
The photo you see above is from my trip to the Swan Coach House with my mom yesterday. I had some chicken salad and some amazing frozen fruit salad, the above was my decadent dessert. It had a meringue cookie base, a chocolate mousse filling, home made whipped topping, almond slivers, and a pastry swan. It was divine.
This morning we went to have blowouts, and that was, of course, luxurious. So, thus far, this has been an excellent birthday.
Now, I will share the song that's always in my head on my birthday and anyone else's. Please enjoy "Happy Birthday, Donald Duck."
Happy Friday to you and Happy Birthday to me!

So my birthday is tomorrow, but today I will celebrate with my mom! More on that on my Instagram later today, I'm sure.
As for this gif...I don't even know, man. I just wanted to make it. She's awfully stoic for those kicks she's doing.
That's all. Happy Thursday!

So, if you follow my Instagram, then you've already seen the black and white version of this sketch/doodle. However, I've been enjoying coloring these hand sketches in photoshop lately, so I decided to do the same to this guy. It's a celebration of pleats!
I took the color palette from a photo of a sunset that I found online. Now that I think of it, though, it's very similar to the last round of sketches I posted. In real life I wear mostly black, but I think these colors are pretty fun on paper.
All right. That's it.

We're two days into my birthday week (my birthday is this friday), and of course I'm celebrating all week. It would seem that the Olympics is also celebrating my birthday as they aired gymnastics and swimming this weekend. This morning, I suppose we're starting my celebration with this gif of my face. It turned out a little more awkward than I'd wanted, but...here it is. Happy birthday to me!
Well, I'm off to eat some birthday week oatmeal...which is the same as oatmeal the rest of the time, but miranda is being extra attentive as I eat it.
Happy Birthday to me, and happy Monday to you!

So, every now and then, my friends and I get together to do a little clothing swap. Yesterday, for Facebook, I made a graphic for the next one. It needed to fit into the spot made available on the event page. So, Here's what I came up with. It's not quite an info graphic, but I hoped it would detail some of the items ladies could choose to bring that weren't necessarily clothes.
If you want to see the image larger, just click! If you want to see it even larger, open it in a new tab.
I hope your Friday morning is off to an excellent start!

This morning, I have a little spinsterly doodle for you. Ok, well, I guess it's not really particularly spinsterly, but I made it so...here it is.
This is obviously about crop tops. I wish I could wear crop tops, but I am not a celebrity, I've got some chubbiness, and I'm almost 31 years old so...no. But, I did watch a movie recently where someone was really killing it in a crop top with high waisted pants. She, I believe, was 17 years old.
The thing about crop tops, though, is that I feel like they might always be at least slightly inappropriate for normal people. It's one thing if you're Kylie Jenner or Taylor Swift, but...in real life, I feel like it may be too much skin in the middle of an outfit. I may be getting old. I feel like that may be what this means.
Anyway...crop top thoughts. I liked drawing them, but I won't be wearing them. Happy Thursday!

I'm not going to lie to you. I can't get it together to make an illustration for today's blog. I'm working on several projects, and my toe hurts. So...I'm sorry. Deeply worry. The good news is, though, you can gaze upon the pulchritude of my precious Miranda.
Now, what's with the title of this post, and what's with my toe? Well, I'll tell you. Last night, I was carrying a glass of water while I walked the baby miranda. I wasn't even holding my phone. Just a plastic cup of water. Long story short, I tripped on the curb, and now a chunk of my toe is missing. I fell all the way down. Like my hand and knee are scraped, too. Who knew curbs could be so aggressive? Miranda, though, is worth it. That baby needed a walk. Just look at that face.
Ok, now I have to get back to my projects. Happy Wednesday!

Target has started putting out their Back To School items, and that always makes me want to go on a school supply purchasing binge. But I'm not in school, so I guess it doesn't make sense. So, to quench my thirst for school supplies, I've made a little back-to-school doodle and searched some Back to School DIYs for your (and my) enjoyment.
So here's a list of ideas I thought looked fun!
1. Back To School Survival Kit from eBay.
You can purchase the items for this project anywhere, but eBay's post does offer a list of things you might want to include.
2. Outfit Organization from Authentic Parenting
This post looks like a bunch of words, but if you scroll down, you can get to the good stuff. I think this idea is also a perfect fit for those of us who have trouble picking out matching and/or appropriate outfits in the morning.
3. Confetti Pencils from Make and Tell
Think if you used glitter nail polish!
4. Fruit Pencil Pouches from Damask Love
I'm a sucker for a good pencil pouch. If you don't need a pencil pouch, perhaps you'd like a cute makeup pouch?
5. DIY Gold and Leather Office Supplies from Damask Love
Part of this tutorial is a little advanced, but I think there's quite a payoff.
Happy Tuesday! Get to crafting!

Today is a big day for this Spinster's best friend. Today, Miranda the baby dog turns two years old! She's still a puppy to me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I may need to go get her a treat. She deserves whatever her little puppy heart desires.
Happy Birthday, Miranda!
